ok. perhaps you didn't hear all the hype about these guys in the 80s, or last year.
here is the situation.
anvil was a thrash metal band out of toronto from the late 70s/early 80s who influenced a lot of bands, metallica, megadeth, anthrax (nice names i know). anywho why do you care? well, the boys in anvil influenced so many groups, but never ever found any success themselves. bad management, bad record production and a bad turn in the music industry left these guys out in the cold.
however the guys never gave up...! after 30 years of no success... no recognition, a former roadie made a documentary on the band and people fell in love with them. you can't help but fall in love with the guys... even if metal isn't your thing... i think a preview of this documentary will make you tear up... watch it here

Happy New Ears
a new year is on the way... (how many of us think about our time on this planet in terms of what year it is?) i have a hard enough time keeping track of what day or hour it is.
any resolutions in store for you?
my resolution is to make resolutions throughout the year. try to constantly improve all year long. sounds over ambitious? naive? pompous? all of the above?
probably, but i get the most thrill when i shed my old skin and grow into something bigger. when i can reduce my handicap on the course, when it takes me a little less time to figure out how to put my shirt on the right way or just not burning my cereal in the morning.
hey for fun, here is a cool u2 video... of course performing new years day.

Christmas Pump Up
so the holidays are almost upon us. most people talk about how christmas is supposed to be relaxing and full of love, but we find the 'holidays' stressful.
when you need a little pick me up, to get your motivated where do you turn?
for me, (as silly as it sounds) i like tony robbins. yeah he was a joke in the 80s, but you know what... when i need to start my christmas shopping, cook a supper, travel and socialize like crazy for a few days, a few minutes of this goon can hype me up for it. enjoy.

so i can't believe i let it happen. i've gone months without a post!
i've always wondered about blogs, that have someone who writes everyday, and then.... nothing. they just drop off the face of the earth, what happens?
i wasn't kidnapped. i didn't up and leave for an unexpected road trip. i didn't even disappear into the woods without a laptop.
i simply kept thinking i should write something, but didn't. so here i am, back from the internet-dead.
less than a month away from christmas... how exciting. i do hope you are able to spend the holidays in the way you want to. more so than anything, i hope you have fun getting ready. to me it is the details leading up to christmas that make it so special. traditions, hanging lights, seeing folks from out of town, the music, the movies, christmas concerts, the building sense of warmth in our hearts.
i wish you all the best.

Retirement
So it is true I am headed back to school in the fall.
Last Thursday we had quite the retirement party for me at the Bruce with the Daddy Mack Bluesband.
However, I can't stay away from the airwaves. I am still your Weekend Warrior and proud host of the Tuesday Night Blues Show.
Having a little extra time to sit back and file through my record collection I have found some great blues tunes and am beefing up the playlists for the show. Check in Tuesday Nights around 6 to hear the fruits of my labour.

Party!
Well the summer weather is here… finally. I’ve done my first pier jump of the season, making summer official.
Well the news is starting to spread that I am heading back to school in the fall. Off to teacher’s college at Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo!
I would like to cordially invite you all to the Bruce Thursday July 23rd for my ‘Retirement Party’. The Daddy Mack Bluesband are coming to town all the way from Beale Street and are set to blow the roof off the place.
Daddy Mack is one of Ron Wood and Keith Richard’s favorite guitarists… Keith and Ron are my favorite guitarists… therefore I conclude for the reasons shown above it is clear that you’ll enjoy them too!

This Week's Shows
Tuesday 6pm-8pm
The 2 Hour Tuesday Night Blues Show- brought to you by Rick and Marilyn Blues
We continue our feature on Steve Strongman who is coming to the Bruce Bar and Grill Saturday May 23rd. As always expect an incredible mix of blues from the 1910s right up to today.

We'll start the show with some rare and obscure songs with female names, then a few tracks that were big hits but no one hears anymore, then a Canadian Spotlight on lesser heard canuck tracks then round out the show with a few odds and ends from my record collection.
Sound good? I'll see you then.
