type='text'>rick mercer

i had the pleasure of interviewing rick mercer of cbc's mercer report this weekend. he was out at the walton racetrack and took a few minutes to talk to me about his exploits there and what it’s like as a political satirist during an election.

rick made mention of his philosophy to comedy and earned some respect in my eyes. rick said that he feels it’s better to 'kick someone up'... rather than kick ‘em when they are down. some weeks a politician will be getting kicked around in the polls or in the media and rather than hit him when they are down… he likes to see the bright side and play up the person’s strengths.

maybe it wasn’t just his attitude. rick did say he liked the name weekend warrior… perhaps that is what earned my respect. :)
rick wright

pink floyd's keyboardist richard wright passed away earlier this week.
as a floyd fan this is unfortunate news. no one wants to hear of someone they like leaving this planet.
like joni mitchell said... you don't know what you got 'til it's gone.

sure i never met the guy, only ever seen photos and heard his music. but you don't like to hear that a person who made something that touched your life so much is gone.

it makes me take a second to appreciate what i've got going in my life... and especially how great of an area we live in. in my last post i was talking about how generous people are around here... and i must say the area itself is unbelievable.

taking in the IPM this week i thought where else can a minor city show up in the middle of a farm feild? where else can you see sqaure dancing farmall tractors?

even around town here... i can walk 4 minutes from the studio and have my feet on a sand beach... i can walk seconds from the station and find incredible shops with a wide variety of items to check out... and i can always count that no matter what is going on i'll see a few hundred smiling faces pass by and wave at me through the coast's window...

As Pink Floyd says on Breathe from Dark Side of the Moon

"For long you live and high you fly...And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry...And all you touch and all you see....Is all your life will ever be"
<img width='1' height='1' of situations we have people coming out to support important causes and not letting such 'atmospheric' circumstances deter them.

as i stood in the coast studio this afternoon doing my on air thing... i see a few dozen people walk by in horizontal rain with rainjackets on, a look of determination and commitment. friendly waves to me through the coast's window and a real sense of passion and care.

i want to say thanks personally for such a showing of the human spirit and just how awesome people can be. but a bigger thanks to all of those who saw passed the weather and perhaps a few minutes of discomfort to raise money for such important causes.

it's truly inspiring.
<img
